just trying to sort things out for everyone.
so as far as things go
it looks like this is what's going to happen
1. have a salary cap of 65 mil, WITH 85 mil HARD CAP.
2. it looks like we are going to have contract extensions regardless of whether we have bird rights or not. (almost like NBA legends in a way, cause they had it you can't go over cap first year but after that it doesn't matter, if no bird rights exist.)
3. Definitely have bird rights and have right to trade player's bird rights (I say that's bad idea. use players bird rights to resign them but trade them I don't know looks too complex to me.)

There will be no contract extensions, only player re-signing (basically you just have to wait till the end of the year to get them to agree to staying) and as far as bird rights go, you can't trade them

exactly. except re-signing them allows the last year of the contract to have more influence on the FA's decision.
For example, say Cleveland wanted to sign lebron to an extension after their finals appearance two years ago. At the beginning of 08/09 season he might have re-signed, but after their disappointing playoffs in 08/09 he would probably be less likely to re-sign (This example is based off real life CLE performance and i was using lebron as an example for an expiring--i know he's not really a FA)
