so are you saying that if there's no contract extension then if lets say josh howard's contract expires and I'm at 70 mil already. Is there no chances for me to resign josh howard since I'm over soft cap already? That could be further discussed. One league I was in that was the rule...if you were over the cap you couldn't sign anyone except for the MLE. On the other hand it is possible to allow teams to go over the soft cap to sign their own expired players.

It's middle ground having contract extensions only if you have the money.. I've seen it work before. It rewards teams that save.
In my mind, Toronto shouldn't be able to sign Howard to an extension because he has no money for it. It helps teams that have a young star to build around because there's a lesser chance of losing him in the long run if they saved up the money to re-sign him. It works, trust me. If you have 3 million in cap, thats all you can offer.

i don't know if my understanding is correct, but isn't it the case for real life in which teams can exceed soft cap in order to keep players? so in the josh howard case, i can exceed my soft cap and still offer him a 10mil dollar contract?

well the point would be that if you resign people on crazy money, you can still exceed hard cap or if your player goes injured, you'll just have a bad contract and no chances to grab other free agents.
it would be wierd to award people with superstars as long as they keep their money down.

I say yes, and it depends on the agent whether the player stays or not. Like in real life, not everyone stays.

No contract extensions. The committee overwhelming dislikes it. Teams can go over the soft cap to re-sign their FA's, so they will still have the advantage but other teams will still have a shot. Plus it allows for more high-profile FA's, meaning some players could be signed for cheaper.

THANK GOODNESS we are talking about this and settling this IN WARM UP season cause if this was REAL SEASON hell would break LOOSE.

You can go over the SOFT cap to re-sign players. You CANNOT go over the hard cap to re-sign anyone. If you are already over the cap, you CAN re-sign for more than the MLE as long as it stays under the hard cap.
Each team will have an MLE worth $6 million available.
No bi-annual exception or any other exception.
No Extensions. Minimum Salary is $500,000. For veteran of ten or more years it is $1,000,000.
Max contract=Starting year of $20 million. Can only increase by 15% a year.
Maximum length of contract is five years.
No trade clauses do not exist. All contracts are fully guaranteed. No qualifying offers (turned into team options). Player options DO exist and will be supervised by player agents.
That should answer all FA quiestions i think.

there will be plenty of FA's. Money is only about half of the decision making process. If teams couldn't go over to sign FA then no decent team would be able to sign any. That's how it is IRL and there are plenty of FA's there

That's how it is IRL and there are plenty of FA's there because in real life, they use real money, which means that teams are going to be much more stingy about giving a player a contract i doubt if we will have any free agents in this league rated above 75
