maybe teams should be more responsible and make sure they have the cap room to resign their players? ?? or we could just give them the easy way out and at the same time screw over any teams that took the time to pick up expiring contracts and actually get cap room to sign free agents. thats cool too. while we are doing that we may as well abolish salaries altogether because they really dont matter in this league. bird rights at 1 year is a joke. you may think im being selfish by saying this but salaries are a crucial part of any league, as is free agency, and if you decide to not have a salary cap and not have free agency, this league is going to die.

these have been the salary rules in every league i have been in and none of them died because of it. its not going to change and no one has a problem here but you. there is a salary cap and you keep assuming that every player is going to re-sign or that every team is gonna want to re-sign their FA's but they won't. as for your team, this has been the rule since the league started. it was posted in the rules when i first allowed people to join. theleague2010.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=leaguerules&action=display&thread=41its not my fault you didn't read the rules.

Plus its not our fault that our teams are over the cap IRL too...
BTW does that salary cap increase counts after the warm up season ?

There won't be any free agents above 79.
I agree with Memphis here. He's right in all of his statements.

The best way to do this is to have extensions only if you are under the soft cap.
This prevents Devin Harris from getting 20 million a year. Because thats what its gonna come down to. Realistically, Harris should get about 13-14 million a year, and that's what he will get if i'm allowed to give him an extension. BUT, now that i can't offer him an extension, i'm just gonna offer him 20 million a year maximum deal because i can't afford to lose him. This is what teams in my situation are going to do to retain their stars.
If you go with my suggestion, and have it just like in Legends, than there will be a good amount of Free Agents, and it will reward teams at the same time who save cap.

This is how real life works, this is how this league works. AND btw i'm not keeping kidd so there's one over 79 for you
P.S. No one is gonna go crazysigning their own FA's this year cuz everyone wants a piece of the 2010 FA pie

I agree with Memphis and New Jersey.
I hate extensions, but I'm on board to allow extensions if you are under the soft cap. However, you would only be allowed to offer up to the amount of which you are under the soft cap. It seems fair, reasonable, and easy.
And Dallas, like I've said time and again before, we don't aim for realism in sim leagues. We aim for fairness. The sooner you realize that a sim league needs to operate differently in some aspects than real life, the better the league will get.

Now Jason Kidd is going to get a 16 million dollar a year deal because teams with cap room are going to be in a bidding war over him with seemingly unlimited funds. That seems pretty realistic to me.

I believe that the rules here are similar to D5, and D5 was one of the best leagues...but now u guys are talking like this leagu will die soon...
so that means that suckish teams with Cap will be able to sign anyone but "Good" teams cant go over the soft cap to resign their stars and will lose them for nothing? and I mean guys that are a full season in that team

Why would you reward teams with horrible cap situations? There is a salary cap for a reason.

I think you could be allowed to go over the cap to resign your own players. I actually feel the 1 year rule is reasonable for a sim league; however, this "warm-up season" does and should not count as one year, so people who just traded for an expiring contract (Phoenix, Dallas, etc) would not have bird rights on those players (Artest, Marion).
1 full season means from game 1 to game 82+ in a regular season. Not a pre-season.
This is League 2010. Our season officially starts from the 2009-2010 season.

Furthermore, I am heavily in favor of lowering the max contracts. $20 million for a base is far too much.
I was thinking about making the max base $12-14.

WE DIDN'T DO THIS TO OUR TEAMS THOUGH! THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS ARE PEOPLE WHO INHERITED TEAMS FULL OF YOUNG,CHEAP, TALENTED PLAYERS! YOU DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH A DAMPIER CONTRACT OR A JEFFRIES CONTRACT OR MILICIC OR RANDOLPH OR ANYTHING! WE AREN'T BEING REWARDED, WE JUST AREN'T BEING PUNISHED. ITS NOT BEING CHANGED. PERIOD. IF ANYTHING IS GOING TO KILL THE LEAGUE IT IS CONSTANT BITCHING AND FEELINGS OF SELF-ENTITLEMENT. MOST OF THE LEAGUE BENEFITS FROM THIS!
