I think you could be allowed to go over the cap to resign your own players. I actually feel the 1 year rule is reasonable for a sim league; however, this "warm-up season" does and should not count as one year, so people who just traded for an expiring contract (Phoenix, Dallas, etc) would not have bird rights on those players (Artest, Marion). 1 full season means from game 1 to game 82+ in a regular season. Not a pre-season. This is League 2010. Our season officially starts from the 2009-2010 season. Marion does have bird rights cuz bird rights are traded with the player. therefore marion would meet the terms of the real life bird rights cuz he hasn't signed a new contract with a new team in over 3 years

so dallas, you think the teams with cap room should be punished for having cap room because "WE DIDN'T DO THIS TO OUR TEAMS"

so dallas, you think the teams with cap room should be punished for having cap room because "WE DIDN'T DO THIS TO OUR TEAMS" you aren't being punished. you think im punishing you but not changing the NBA rules to benefit you. thank you for proving my point about self-entitlement

Why would you reward teams with horrible cap situations? There is a salary cap for a reason. Its not my fault that the Suns IRL got Big Ben and Pavlovic great contracts, so I'm already "losing" cuz they have 0 value for me or worse

WE DIDN'T DO THIS TO OUR TEAMS THOUGH! THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS ARE PEOPLE WHO INHERITED TEAMS FULL OF YOUNG,CHEAP, TALENTED PLAYERS! YOU DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH A DAMPIER CONTRACT OR A JEFFRIES CONTRACT OR MILICIC OR RANDOLPH OR ANYTHING! WE AREN'T BEING REWARDED, WE JUST AREN'T BEING PUNISHED. ITS NOT BEING CHANGED. PERIOD. IF ANYTHING IS GOING TO KILL THE LEAGUE IT IS CONSTANT BITCHING AND FEELINGS OF SELF-ENTITLEMENT. MOST OF THE LEAGUE BENEFITS FROM THIS! 1) I have Randolph. 2) You chose that team. That's your problem, not ours. 3) It seems the only people who want what you want are the ones who inherited stacked, talented teams. It's a two-way street here, buddy. 4) This is for the league. Activity, interesting FA crops, fairness. 5) Um, I actually supported your 1 year FA bird rights. However, I just mentioned that the pre-season shouldn't count...hence the words "warm-up" season. 6) Being punished? Punished? You picked a team capable of contending for the title. You have bad contracts. Every team does. I had Nick Collison for 4 years at 6 mil each year. 7) On the contrary, the "constant bitching" lets everyone voice their opinions and creates a democratic atmosphere. 8) Are you sure you are capable of handling a league if you get this infuriated over a topic?

so dallas, you think the teams with cap room should be punished for having cap room because "WE DIDN'T DO THIS TO OUR TEAMS" So if that was the case, when someone joins a league they shouldnt get a good team who is over the cap cuz he would lose his players for nothin?

or how about this? the hard cap is always $15 mil above the soft cap. That way it gives teams a chance to sign basically like one good player but not the max contract so theres a greater probability another team can sign him away

The hard cap is always $15 mil higher than the soft cap. You can go over the soft cap to re-sign your own FA's, but not over the hard cap. Teams can only re-sign one of their own FA if they are over the cap.
Each team will have an MLE worth $6 million available.
No bi-annual exception or any other exception.
No Extensions. Minimum Salary is $500,000. For veteran of ten or more years it is $1,000,000.
Max contract=Starting year of $16 million. Can only increase by 15% a year.
Maximum length of contract is five years.
No trade clauses do not exist. All contracts are fully guaranteed. No qualifying offers (turned into team options). Player options DO exist and will be supervised by player agents.
I changed the cap rule and the max contract. thoughts?
